Characteristics
- Low density: The density of pure aluminum is approximately 2700 KG/M³, which is only about 35% of that of iron. It is lightweight, making it convenient for handling, installation, and use.
- Strong corrosion resistance: Aluminum easily forms a dense aluminum oxide film on its surface in the atmosphere, which can prevent further oxidation. It has excellent corrosion resistance to the atmosphere and water, and shows good corrosion resistance in environments such as fresh water, seawater, air, and concentrated nitric acid.
- Good workability: It has excellent plasticity and can be rolled into thin plates and foils, drawn into pipes and wires, extruded into various profiles. It can also undergo machining operations such as turning, milling, boring, and planing, and can be cast using any casting method.
- Good electrical and thermal conductivity: Its electrical and thermal conductivity are second only to silver, copper, and gold. At room temperature, the volume conductivity of electrical aluminum can reach 62% IACS. Calculated by the conductivity per unit mass, its electrical conductivity is twice that of copper.
- High reflectivity: The polished surface has a reflectivity of more than 80% for white light. The higher the purity, the higher the reflectivity. It has good reflection properties for infrared rays, ultraviolet rays, electromagnetic waves, thermal radiation, etc.
Chemical Composition and Grades
- Pure aluminum plates belong to the 1000 series of aluminum plates. Common grades include 1050, 1060, 1070, 1100, etc., and their aluminum content all reaches more than 99.00%. For example, the aluminum content of 1050 aluminum plates is more than 99.5%, the aluminum content of 1060 aluminum plates reaches 99.6%, and the aluminum content of 1070 aluminum plates reaches 99.7%.
Mechanical Properties
- The strength of pure aluminum plates is relatively low. The tensile strength σb of annealed plates is 80-100 MPa, and the yield strength σ0.2 is 30-50 MPa. However, the strength can be increased through cold deformation. After 60%-80% cold deformation, the tensile strength can be increased to 150-180 MPa.
Application Fields
- Architectural decoration field: It is used for the exterior wall decoration, roof panels, ceilings, partition walls, etc. of buildings. For example, pure aluminum plates are used in the exterior decoration of some landmark buildings. It can also be made into blinds, curtain walls, etc., adding beauty and a modern touch to the building.
- Electronics and electrical appliances field: Due to its good electrical and thermal conductivity, it is widely used in the manufacturing of products such as wires, cables, electronic components, electrical appliance casings, and radiators.
- Daily necessities field: It can be processed into various kitchen utensils, such as pots, bowls, ladles, basins, etc., and is also used in the production of lamps, decorations, signs, suitcases, etc.
